First things first, you want to make sure the band you choose is reputable. This isn’t just about who wins band of the year or how many times they’ve won it, but about the entire experience as a whole. Think about what will make your carnival experience even better. Do they offer food, drinks, and hospitality services such as security, and top-notch DJs? Do your research and find out what past participants have to say about the band.
When it comes to costumes, quality is key. You want to make sure the designs are top-notch and that the section leaders are reputable. Be sure to choose a band that accommodates the needs of plus-sized friends playing Mas with you. Ensuring your section leader is experienced is equally important. Section leaders are the individuals responsible for the construction and distribution of costumes, and are also your go-to contact for all things related to your costume and playing mas. So it’s important to choose someone who is well-equipped in customer service, who is punctual and who will have your costume completed in a timely manner. There is nothing worse than having to wait hours in the Mas Camp for your costume, or worse having to wait until parade morning to collect.
