Beryls Pepper Pot Ajax

Top of the list is Beryls Pepper Pot, a family-owned restaurant with two locations in Durham Region. The Ajax location is their OG spot, tucked away in an industrial area. The restaurant is a bit of a hole in the wall, but the food is absolutely delicious. You can’t go wrong with their Jerk Chicken, Oxtail, or soup specials. If you’re looking for a sit-down experience with fusion Caribbean food like ackee and sailfish fritters, their Pickering location offers a bit more variety. And of course, you can get all of their classics at their Pickering location as well.

Lena’s Roti and Double

If you’re looking for authentic Trinidadian food, Lena’s Roti and Double is the place to be. Located in North Ajax, this spot serves up some of the best roti in town. Their doubles, aloo pie, saheena, and veggie platter are also must-tries. And if you’re out west in Brampton, they have a location there too.

Allwyn’s Bakery

A Toronto favourite that has made its way out to Durham Region, Allwyn’s Bakery is a must-visit spot. This is Allwyn’s first Durham location, and we couldn’t be more excited about it. Their jerk chicken sandwich is a must-have! If you try anything on their menu, that would be our top recommendation. All of their other dishes are great too, and another favourite of ours is their stuffed patty with coco bread.

Patty Gyal

Another hidden gem in Ajax, Patty Gyal serves up homemade and delicious patties. They have a good variety of options from Ackee and Sailfish, Oxtail, Jerk Chicken, and of course, your classics like mild and spicy beef patties. If you’re looking for a quick and tasty bite, this is the spot for you.
Location: Harwood Ave. & Doric St., the entrance and parking lot are located on Doric St.

Caribbean Heat

For those craving West Indian-style Chinese food, Caribbean Heat is one of the best spots to visit in Pickering. This spot serves up some authentic and delicious West Indian-style Chinese food, including chilli chicken, special chicken chow mein, Alex chicken, and more. If you’re looking for a unique twist on Chinese food, this is a great restaurant to try.

Conveniently located just south of Brock and 401, this spot has been around for years and is especially lively on a Friday night. Friday nights after 5 PM, they also offer crab and lobster, where you can choose your flavour from curry, sweet bean, spicy garlic, and more. If you’re looking for a lively atmosphere and delicious food, Island Mix is the place to be.
